It’s been a long summer for Square Peg and Rime. There have been ups and downs and it’s been a lot of hard work, but now looking back over the last seven months it’s been fantastic!

The season’s last performance on Sunday at the Devizes International Street Festival was absolutely lovely, especially as the weather was on our side; the few days beforehand and the day after were all extremely wet, but the glorious sunshine dried out the ground for us and Rime went up without a hitch.

Square Peg’s show ‘Rime’ was an outstanding highlight of this year’s Devizes International Street Festival in August. Their meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of its preparation and performance and adoption of the highest production standards throughout had implied all along that we were in for something special but the show when it came was a stunner in every respect. Superb dance, song and acrobatics and a clever interpretation of an unlikely choice of theme. Our audience of hundreds stood in the dark and watched it spellbound and were still talking about it days later.

And lastly, it wouldn’t be right to end without saying a huge thank you to everyone who worked with and supported us along the way. This year would not have been possible without each and every one of you:

Last night we were welcomed after yesterday’s long drive from Edinburgh down to Devizes in Wiltshire by Dave Buxton of Devizes outdoor and celebratory Arts (Doca). Now, although we’re sad to have left Edinburgh, Will and I are excited to have got going with the setup for our last show of the season at the Devizes International Street Festival and we’re Looking forward to the rest of the company arriving tomorrow.

The show is on the 26th at 8:30pm on Devizes Green and it’s free to all who come. Hope to see you there!

With only two shows left for us at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe here’s another fantastic review to whet your appetite and tempt you into coming to watch the show:

If these aren’t enough to entice you down to watch one of our last two performances at the Fringe, I don’t know what will.

Now that Rime is back on stage again I’m delighted with our latest review by Jane Frere in the Edinburgh Guide today which gave the show a fantastic four stars!

Only two days left to catch it, so head down to Summerhall ASAP!

After a great few days of rehearsal after Nich’s injury, we are now on-track to reopen once again this evening. We’ve had to work very hard to re-make many parts of the show so that they work without Nich. The process has been physically and emotionally hard work, drawing the whole company together to do the best work we can given the situation. So I was extremely surprised to receive an email yesterday informing me that we’ve been awarded this week’s Herald Angel Little Devil Award for embodying the spirit of “the show must go on”.

So A huge thank you to Mary Brennan and Keith Bruce at the Herald and to the Bank of Scotland for recognising the huge amount of work and effort it’s taken to remount Rime, and this morning, whilst the rest of Square Peg were warming up in preparation for our final rehearsals (again) I went down to the Bank of Scotland to collect the award, here are a couple of pictures of the event:

And don’t forget Rime is back on in the Dissecting Room at Summerhall at 17:30 every evening until the 16th… see you there!

As we continue to work hard re-staging Rime so that we can open our doors as soon as possible, our spirits were heightened by this fantastic review in The List this morning:

After yesterday’s traumatic ending and the news that Nich shan’t be able to perform again for at least another six weeks, we were all delighted to be greeted this morning with this fantastic review in The Skinny – one of Edinburgh’s most well known independent cultural magazines:

So this morning, after a long discussion about what course to take, and some detailed conversations with Summerhall, we have decided to re work Rime in order that we can continue to perform despite Nich’s unfortunate injury. We’ll continue to post more information here and I hope to be able to re-open the show in the next few days… until then, do have a read:
